I'm Richard Matusow, a transformational coach based in Portland, Oregon. I work with clients here and across the world, integrating the inner work of purpose, growth, and self-knowledge with the outer work of strategy, vision, and building a life that reflects what you actually care about.
Some people come to me because they feel stuck and want help gaining greater clarity and inspiration. Others come because they're successful in some areas of life but know that they have a higher purpose. While other people come for guidance and support on personal or professional topics that they want to explore deeply.

A different kind of coaching
At Full Lotus Coaching, the inner and outer work are interconnected since personal growth and practical results are equally important for lasting happiness.
Full Lotus Coaching is built on the belief that everyone has the innate wisdom to know what is best for them. At our core we are all aware of our pure essence and purpose. However, due to layers of deeply seated habits and conditioning we lose access to some of that knowledge. The lotus flower is a fitting metaphor since it grows in mud and yet everything rolls off its petals. Nothing tarnishes or stains a lotus flower even though it's mired in mud. Similarly the work of this practice is to create the conditions to move through problems and challenges in order to discover new and excited opportunities for greater growth, fulfillment, and joy.
Finding the opportunity in every challenge
Perceived challenges have been the greatest teachers and catalysts for transformation in my own life. The moments that felt like the ground giving way beneath me were actually the ones that opened me to up to my biggest breakthroughs.
That's the orientation I bring to coaching. Sometimes we see the opportunity in a situation right away. Other times it takes years, decades, even a lifetime to recognize the gift in difficult situations. The work of Full Lotus Coaching is to set the conditions for you to see what's possible in what you're facing — to find the possibilities inside the problems, the openings inside the obstacles, the next chapter in your growth and evolution.

How we begin
The first step is a complimentary thirty-minute discovery call or video. For people who are in Portland this can be a live session. The goal of this session is to get acquainted and to discuss topics that you would like to explore. I will share my thoughts about working on these topics and potential paths to work together. This is a relaxed, informative conversation without any pressure to start a working engagement.
